What Plants Are Good for Growing on a Rooftop Patio?

I live in Minnesota and have a rooftop patio that gets direct sunlight – there is no shade at all. I’m wondering what flowers and possibly vegtables I can grow in that much sun light. I grew some flowers last year but with the constant heat all the flowers dried up, I have not tried vegtables yet.
