Long story short, my dad insists that if i sit on the patio swing without using the cushions that the welds that hold the seat together will break. He claims that the cushions will distribute the weight better and the welds wont break and rust. It is a nice "theory" but the swing isnt held together with string, it is WELDED. The bars that the cushion sits on (if I was using them) run the length of the seat (the seat holds three people) and there are two supports under these bars that divide the seat into thirds (one section for each cushion which = one section for each person). so it seems to me that the bars that the cushions sit on pretty much support themselves, and the cushions are there more so to make it a comfortable place to sit, rather than to be a "weight distribution system". keep in mind to that when im on the swing im just sitting still, not bouncing up and down on it like a trampoline. I strongly believe he has been horribly mis-informed about welds being that weak.
